Falklands oil failure as Desire comes up dry - Telegraph

Not entirely correct, but hey it makes for a nice headline. Desire are sidetracking and the drilling isn't finished. That said, I am all out of Desire until a strike. Still all in my Rockhopper today. Just need them to announce they have further funding in place and off we should go again. If it gets to £20 I can be a real contractor and buy a nice house for cash.

BBC News - Rockhopper optimism on Falklands oil development

The company estimates there are 350m barrels of recoverable oil in the field it has been exploring - enough to turn the Falklands into a significant oil production centre.

It said it expected production to peak at about 120,000 barrels per day in 2018.

Good job we have those new aircraft carriers coming into service before decomissioning the existing ones, and that we still have those harriers in operation so we don't have operational carriers not capable of hosting aircraft.

The argies must be tulipting themselves. I can see no possibility of Falklands War II.

Maybe we'll have to base ground troops there. Are the oil companies British, or pay UK tax/fees?

I think we can safely assume another war. Maybe our NATO allies will help us the way that we have helped them in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya.

If I was Rockhopper I'd be selling a few shares to certain influencial yanks pronto.

Maybe we don't need aircraft carriers. The Falklands do have a runway capable of hosting the RAF doesn't it, and we have significant airforce capability there already?

I'm sure the army also have significant forces there. Ideal place to go yomping.

No Belgrano to sink this time around, but I'm sure the odd submarine is loitering in the area.

The fact that oil is found on British territory will not make one iota of difference to the price at the petrol pumps nor will it reduce our taxes. The same oil companies will drill the oil out and make profits squalled off to the Cayman Islands whether it is Argentinean oil or British oil however if it comes to the military defending the oil companies then you and me will pay from our taxes; not the oil companies.
