Must pick up card from bank using ID card.Originally posted by Peoplesoft bloke View PostHow will ID cards help the banks stop fraudulent postal card applications?

So will I have to supply my fingerprints on a reader at the bank along with my government ID card, to "prove" I am the person shown on it? I am genuinely interested in the day-to-day prcticalities of how this will work.Originally posted by minestrone View PostMust pick up card from bank using ID card.

Why can't I use my passport now to do that?Originally posted by minestrone View PostMust pick up card from bank using ID card.

Possibly because banks want to make it easy for customers to get their cards, and since they are busy closing all the branches down, they are still prepared to post 'em. But also, the passport doesn't link (yet) to a government database containing the fingerprints of everyone in the UK (although of course that will never actually work - at least in my lifetime).Originally posted by Cliphead View PostWhy can't I use my passport now to do that?Comment

Passports are actually very easy to get.Originally posted by Cliphead View PostWhy can't I use my passport now to do that?
However I have always argued that they should have just improved the passport and not made a totally new system.Comment
