It's really nice where I live, but I'm not telling you where it is. We don't want your sort around here, thank you very much.

Croydon, God no!!!!
I want to be able to walk the streets at night and not have to buy a Rotweilier to guard my motorbike and toys. It's cheap there for a very good reason.
Sutton, hmm, you know I'm just not warming to the idea if London suburbs like that. Have lived in Clapham for a while and really liked it, kind of has a town high street feel about the place but non-descript spots like (how I imagine) Sutton really don't appeal.
Going to have a much closer look at the major towns in Kent, that high speed rail, though expensive, would mean daily commute feasible.
Maybe spend a bit more and go to Fleet / Winchester but then I'm going to be short when it comes to deposit sufficient to get best offset mortgage deals.
Perhaps stick with one of original plans and go to Bournemouth.

There are fast trains into London from Basingstoke - loads of people commuting into London on them. (I think they take an hour max I've gone further on them. ) Then there is the M3 for contracts around the area generally no speed limits.Originally posted by Olly View PostBasingstoke ticked a lot boxes in that respect but even then I think the journey is perhaps a bit too much.Last edited by SueEllen; 14 March 2010, 13:41."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

However with Croydon they are not called Croydon and so will probably be out of your price bracket.
I actually can't think of any were in London or just outside where you can get the house you want that isn't horrible, or too quiet and family orientated."You’re just a bad memory who doesn’t know when to go away" JRComment

Ok, so you probably don't even know where Lincolnshire is but consider somewhere like Stamford. Short drive to Peterborough for the East Coast mainline (50 mins to London, or 1h30 up to Leeds). Nottingham and Leicester driveable in an hour or so.
