Can't we just reverse good ol' Dr Beeching's efforts? Each morning I have a nice fifteen minute journey to work on what must be the last of the slam-door stock in the UK. It even makes a nice clickety-clack noise like trains should do.Comment

I did not live in this county prior to 1996, and at the time I did not pay much attention to politics, but from what I can see the historical score is this:Originally posted by Spacecadet View PostYou mean the plan for no more Tory mis-managed railways?
It's going very well, we now have Labour mis-managed railways
1) Tories fecked up railways by not investing into them
2) Liebor continued to feckup railways and in process wasting massive amounts of taxpayer cash
I don't like either, but I think all things equal I'd take option #1.Comment

Surely Virgin decision to switch to smaller Pendolinos in order to try and ensure capcity was fully utilised off peak din't exactly help. Some of them are being extended which will further increase capacity and presumably have Virgin winging more about peak time utilisation.Comment

When I go to London I tend to take first off peak train out (they increase peak window that now starts at 3pm ffs) - it is packed, so I tend to reserve my seat in advanced.Originally posted by ASB View PostSurely Virgin decision to switch to smaller Pendolinos in order to try and ensure capcity was fully utilised off peak din't exactly help.
As I walk past long train I see first EMPTY 3-4 first class carriages. FFS - they are EMPTY why have 4 of them in what is effectively peak time?Comment
