Unleasing millions of martyrs is a bit dramatic and a over the top. Just tone it down a bit and I would probably be agreeing with you

If that isn't martyrdom, I don't know what is.
        I know what it is.

History is full of examples of armies trying to use massive numbers to overcome some superiority that the enemy has. The Japanese tried it against the Americans, The chinese against the Japs, The Russians against the Germans, etc.
Now if you define all those examples as martyrdom, then thats ok, and you are right. But a military historian would call it full frontal assault en masse, almost certain to be doomed to failure and heavy loss.

The Iraqi army was advanced and technologically superior, the Iranian numbers meant nothing. They bounced off.
If they try it again, they will suffer the same horrible fate.

The World has moved on since then. Remember 9/11 PanAm etc?

Of course, opinions are like arseholes, everyone's got one. To which they are entitled and, in a democracy such as ours (!?), all equally valid.

As for international news analysis, there are enough posts on here saying 'don't believe what you read, it's all a conspiracy man'.

            You just can't win...

                good point, well made.

In terms of pure military history, there is very little new under the sun, so talk of wars being unwinnable, hordes of this or that overruning us, or other scare stories are often pure nonsense. You just need to recognise what it it is you are dealing with

The Romans used to come up against these type of enemies, but they didnt call them martyrs or religeous zealots etc. They categorised them as 'Fanatics'.
Their method for dealing with a fanatic army was to hunker down for a few hours, purely defensively, and them them run out of steam. Then when they realised that their God or whatever was not really going to do much today, they would fall apart quite easily.

Once the yanks got the measure of the japs in the pacific, they came up with a similar ploy. The casualty ratio went from 1:1 to 100:1 over the space of one or two battles.

Iran obviously wants a Shie government so they (the Iranian Revolutionary Guard) are backing Shie extremists. USA wants partition, and UK is up their backside.

Meanwhile the People's Mujahedin of Iran or PMOI are sponsered by the USA to let off bombs in Iran. Hunreds have been killed last year.
