I am led to believe that the Betamax ones are of a better quality although not as many films seem to be available. It's mostly horror stuff to be honest.

Possibly, and we have a reserve collection of good vintage Vosne Romanees specially set aside for that purpose. Give them 20 or 30 years and they'll be just right.

You may find that the floor needs a bit of reinforcement though.

It's the machine that sits in the corner & whines at you at 1kHz (for 625 line/50Hz).

Not to mention the noise the compressor & vacuum pump make though.

I prefer the occasional, randomly timed 'beep' and a sciencey looking sine wave on the little screen. Much more techno design.

This machine is idea for you in this case: just to the right of the right hand spool, there's a little green scope display.

Not quite sine wave, but very pretty.

I think the knob above it lets you select a variety of interesting waveforms.

It's bwilliant! And the erudite chap on page 4 has very cool specs; I haven't seen those at specsavers, must search the interweb to find some.
