oh thank god! I know now what I need to work on.

Luckily already started at another client today.

To be honest, I had to come across a better candidate at some point in my career. I mean there are so many 'experts' on CUK I'm surprised I've never come across one before.

Que Sera, Sera, and these things happen for a reason, not always of your own doing.

Could be something as simple at the other candidiate looked more of a push over and that's what the managers wanted.

Exactly. Sometimes, in a warped devious permie mind, better is worse.

Hard to believe, but in large organisations contractors are sometimes hired in the hope and expectation they will fail.

Actually, quite nice to fail at the interview to be honest.

It was between me and the other candidate. During the interview which took a ridiculous 2 hours I was quizzed constantly on technical, project management and stakeholder management at the highest level.

I fell short on the stakeholder management level. They felt that I had not dealt with the highest level, basically the CEO and the rest of the board. Where mine is all senior director/VP. So I just lacked a little experience/gravitas at that level.

I realised I didnt have the answers they wanted when I left and new I'd done about 80%. I was punching way above my weight on the role and feel quite happy I did so well.

The problem with contracting is though, you are being hired to be able to do what you do 100%, so trying to apply for roles above you may work for perm, but maybe not for contract. Time will tell.
