Of course you have the benefit of hindsight. At the time the country was in a mess, with the Unions controlling, Energy, transport, communications and manufacturing, how was anyone going to be able to make the changes necessary without upsetting a lot of people.

She may have made mistakes but these were trivial compared with her successes.

I read in Thatcher's autobiography that the people on nightshift at British Leyland used to come in with tents and sleeping bags and go for a kip round the back of the factory.

It was the same at the Birmid Aluminium Foundry in Smethwick in the late 70s.

I'd turn up at 8pm, push a brush round for a couple of hours, until the foreman would tell me to knock off for the night, and we'd all have a good night's sleep with the furnaces all on to keep us nice and warm.

Thatcher is great - she fked it all up so that now everyone has to get up well early and work long hours to make a half decent living, fantastic!!!
