How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.
They should be ok actually - bought 6 x R210s for SKA's growing needs - extra warranty is a rip off but since we plan to use them in failover mode then we don't care too much if one box fails...
No, we just forgot to order rails with them, grrr - rack server without rails ffs!
Either way we sure stick to SuperMicro for important stuff...
The muppetry was yours for not ordering the right kit, incidentally some people do buy rack servers without rails as they have unsuitable racks or just want the smaller case, it's far from uncommon.
Server rack rails are expensive no matter what manufacturer you buy from especially if you order them separately.
I've found Dell to be fine as a server supplier, no better or worse than any of the others I've bought hundreds from.
