Many years ago, when Sunday opening was rare, especially in Scotland, a Jewish barber operated on Sundays in the Barrowlands market area, which did open on Sundays. He was taken to court for doing business on a Sunday.
The judge had a sudden attack of wisdom and good sense, and decreed that the barber could work on Sundays, provided that he acually was a Jew, and that he did not open on Saturdays.
Perhaps your Muslim colleagues could balance their time off on Fridays with 4 hours work every Sunday?Step outside posh boyComment

Or perhaps they're just taking the piss! Oi Admin, can we have a drunken Moslem smiley to represent hypocrisy?
Btw, where in the Qu'ran does it mention that alcohol is verboten?

Hmm, I’ve seen plenty of muslims drinking. In fact, some say ‘insh’allah’ much like we say ‘cheers’ when they raise a glass with each other.Originally posted by Churchill View PostOr perhaps they're just taking the piss! Good on 'em.

In the east end of London, that now has a very large muslim population, all the pubs are closing. They've got no customers.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostHmm, I’ve seen plenty of muslims drinking. If Eastenders was a true depiction of London east end life, the Queen Vic would be shut by now.Comment

insh’allah means "God willing" or "If it is God's will" - it's ingrained so much that saying it might not mean more than when I say "Thanks God!", for I am insh’allah atheist.Originally posted by Mich the Tester View PostIn fact, some say ‘insh’allah’ much like we say ‘cheers’ when they raise a glass with each other.Comment

Indeed, but I have the impression that migrant muslims sometimes become more orthodox than the muslims in muslim countries. OK, so Turkey is officially secular, but most people are muslims; go to Istanbul and you're never more than a few yards from a pub. Most of the customers are moderate muslims. You see muslims drinking in Indonesia, in Pakistan, India and other places, not in huge amounts but they're there. There are a few breweries in Pakistan and their customers are not only christians. I heard from an Iranian chap here at clientco that there's a trade in bootleg booze in Iran and many people have a drink at home; Iranians aren't all radical, certainly in Tehran.Originally posted by sweetandsour View PostIn the east end of London, that now has a very large muslim population, all the pubs are closing. Perhaps, but then there aren't a lot of 100% convinced atheists in the world. Most people remain at least nominally religious and say a prayer from time to time.Originally posted by AtW View Postinsh’allah means "God willing" or "If it is God's will" - it's ingrained so much that saying it might not mean more than when I say "Thanks God!", for I am insh’allah atheist. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument?
