        No heart for carnal beast (4) ???L
        I'm not particularly confident about this, but another word for carnal could be "sensual" and if you take the heart (centre bit) out of that then you get "seal". Which is a kind of beast. Perhaps.

          I'm well impressed. I think it would be Porn if it was the private eye crossword, but in this instance (the Listener), Pulp seems correct. ( I should have got that one. )

            I did notice that, but he gave no explanation and it didn't look at all plausible (read: I couldn't figure out an explanation).

            At least my answer fits the clue perfectly, even it does have slightly the wrong number of letters.
