Good old Safeway used to supply paper bags. Paper bag production is good because it encourages the growing of trees for paper. Young trees also produce far more oxygen than old trees

When I were a lad the supermarkets used put the large packaging boxes out the front so customers could use them to take their shopping home.

No-one gave a tulip about carbon footprints or polar bears in those days, it was just common sense.

I remember when I used to go to a supermarket, a young man would pick all my items off the back shelf and put them in a paper bag and deliver them by bike the next morning.

I always got a couple of pennies back from a shilling. It's so expensive now.

And don't get me started on the price of mead!!!!

No, As I said, if the supermarkets make up their mind not give out bags then that is fine. The problem is they are not consistent. If they declare to the nation that they will not give out bags, then we can all walk around with a “handy bag *” like the soviets did in the days of communism.
(* a bag carried just in case the shops actually had stock)

For regular shopping, ocado delivery is the way. They do supply bags but they take the last lot away the next time they deliver.

Why do you need a supermarket to tell you whether or not to carry a bag around? Just carry one, ffs, then you won't be dissapointed....
