I won't be voting. If people vote for a party they do not believe in then that party will govern with a false mandate. By not voting you are making your voice heard loudly and clearly and you will encourage new parties to form to fill the vacuum. At the very least the existing parties may evolve into someting half worth a vote.

Plus - lots of people struggled so that I could have the right to vote, so IMO, it should be the law.

Nobody wants to give up anything, but the situation is not sustainable. Therefore people will give up something - many people will give up quite a lot - but it will be "implemented" by default or by stealth.

Inflation, for example, is always a handy tool for removing real wealth from one place and putting it somewhere else. This is tried and tested.

The "bailout" of the banks is an ingenious new method of impoverishing people: the reason why banks are giving close to 0% interest on savings but still charging significant interest on loans is not so much that they are venal and grasping (though they are) but that they have to in order to satisfy govt requirements. The government will indeed probably make a profit out of the bailout, which looked like good news at first until we realised that banks don't have any money of their own, so the only people who could pay up to generate this profit were the customers and the public. The government will use the profit to fuel their spending: the bank "bailout" is a tax.
