Usually because they have much higher mileage. Fortunately those who are somewhat ill-educated in motoring matters, such as yourself, are scared by this and won't buy them. This leads to lower prices, which benefits the better-educated motorist such as me.

Instead you'd prefer the low mileage car with one lady owner who rode the clutch all day and thought an MOT was a service.

Is there something I'm not aware of or is it simply supply and demand?
I've been looking at the same, odd why Focii are more expensive when they have a cheaper new list price and there are nearly 3x as many on the market compared to the Mondeo listed on Autotrader?

Deep down I do fancy a Golf 2.0 TDI though.
Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson

Already got a big V6... simple method is to use that for the first few weeks then switch to the diesel

Foci if you must. Where O where did the other "i" come from?

I'd say Focuses BTW: it's a car in English, not a fireplace in Latin.

I have run both but I now have a Citroen c5, it cost much less in maintenance, much better quality and far more comfortable. Averaging 55 to 60 mpg.

Best bet is a Skoda Octavia 1.9TDi (avoid the 2.0 with the particle filter). Nobody will nick it but is comfy, reliable and cheap to buy and run. IMO avoid anything diesel with particle filters, very expensive and a lot of trouble.

                    WHS

Though I am pretty sure all diesels need to have particulate filters, it's just older models are "serviceable" meaning will cost you a bunch when they need to get replaced at 60k miles!

Do your research. Any VAG 2.0 TDi is to be avoided at all costs, crap engines and troublesome particle filters. Go for the 1.9 TDi, preferably in a Skoda.
