I don’t think so. Not Mrs Thatcher. No way. Mrs Thatcher opened her own doors, and kicked them down if necessary. And what exactly is wrong with an "ad hominem" argument? Dodgy Agent, 16-5-2014 -
My view was that it's not safe to open window to bend over it to open the door from outside. Even when train is stationary. Thankfully this tulip is gone now, but train tickets are well expensiveOriginally posted by HairyArsedBloke View PostDid it ever occur to you that this might have been a safety feature to cut down on the chances of opening the doors when the train is in motion?

No it's not. There are still carriages in use that have this safety feature.Originally posted by AtW View PostMy view was that it's not safe to open window to bend over it to open the door from outside. Whereas in utopia there would be no need for socialists, eh?Originally posted by AtW View PostWhen do you think socialists start doing it? It's when the previous greedy party that won't invest smartly and get tulipy trains like I described, then it creates OPENING to some socialist barsteward who'd say - let's tax the rich to fix trains etc: one leads to another.
So Thatcher and Conservatives in general are also responsible for what Labour did - after all if Conservatives were so bloody wonderful they would not lose their jobs

Slower lines use pretty tulipy trains that make those Intercity ones with bend-over-to-open doors pretty good.

Not in the slam door trains that ATW is describing.Originally posted by Andy2 View PostThe doors are automatically locked when the train is in motion so its not a safety feature.
They were f'in brilliant as you could open the door whilst it was coming into Waterloo and get a running start down to the tube. And each carriage had 8 doors on either side so there wasn't the scrum to get out of the 2 doors carriages have these days."See, you think I give a tulip. Wrong. In fact, while you talk, I'm thinking; How can I give less of a tulip? That's why I look interested."Comment
