As has already been pointed out, Apple don't do the $1 = £1 thing.

Based on a comparison of MacBook pricing, $499 looks like coming out a little over £400.

But £1 = $1.61 , like for like it should be £350 max taking into account tax. I don't think it will sell in enough numbers, people have laptops, and netbooks are much cheaper. It's not a must have trendy phone or music player.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Any mention of screen resolution yet?

The one thing the netbooks fall down on (and were initially restricted over, if not still are) was poor screen resolution, so much scrolling about trying to browse web pages.

For that reason I quickly ditched the netbook and found an ultra-light 13.3" laptop with 1440x900 res, though that cost much more than the 400 odd quid this will.

So if this thing has a high enough resolution it may fill a niche until the proper next-gen stuff comes out later in the year.

I'm not convinced at the moment. Jobs was saying "it's the best browsing experience, it's the best for photos" etc. I don't really see how it's any better than a laptop at any of the things it does. Basically, I can't see a reason to buy it. I'm not sure about the ergonomics of it either. You either need to hold it at an angle with one hand and type one handed with the other, or set it down flat and use both hands but then you need to peer over it looking down on it like one of those old arcade games in a diner table.

Of course, once I've seen and used one I might realise I'm totally wrong, but I won't be rushing out to try one.

I'm thinking a device in the shape of an apple with a bite taken out to make room for the display would have been better.

Not everyone likes super slim models, some of us like ones with a bit of meat on them. Better ergonomics.

I think this is going to be another Apple TV. Nice implementation but not really compelling. No (in-built) front-facing webcam so no video Skype. No Flash support. No multitasking. No low-level apps like terminal (I do a lot of SSH-ing to my home server).

I won't be replacing my Hackingtoshed Dell netbook any time soon.*

Plus, at the recent CES a load of tablets were demo'd running Android. If production can be ramped up and at low(er) price-point can be achieved, my tablet of choice will be running Android 'Touch'.

*But feel free to buy one as I own shares in Apple

2 - 3 years ago I said those iphones were going to sell like hotcakes...

                  I was right.

Today, from what I've seen, those iPads are going to sell like hotcakes.

And for one reason only. It's actually priced quite reasonably, even if I never use it.

Plus I've never seen anything like this on the market before. From what I've read about it, others have tried but the iPad highlights what they were lacking. Make it simple make it stupid.

Those things are going to sell like hotcakes...

Sell, sell, sell! They're going to crash when the banker boys notice it's just a smoke and mirrors show, nothing really new or innovative.

All those companies rushing to bring out way cooler tech are going to be alternating between sighing in relief and pissing themselves. You'll see them on the dance floors this weekend, doing the Jobs dance in the style of the funky chicken.
