vBulletin's "search" implementation is weird and not particularly wonderful though, so I'll let you off given that you're a self-confessed newbie

This picture here: link - is of a three masted sailing vessel, correctly called a 'ship'.

It is drawn to show it flying as many of its sails as possible, and the picture shows some of the sheets (lines for holding the corners of the sails) and other lines used to holding the masts and spars in place. It is a nice picture and some may like to use it as their Windows background for a little while as an educational tool or for decorative purposes.

However, this picture : link - is of a different kind of vessel yet it is also a 'ship' but this is a 'first rate' 'ship-of-the-line'.

This cross-section is a fascinating piece of work; I should love to own a good quality copy of the original. Although I am sure your eye is drawn to the detail inside the vessel, I should like to move your attention further up to the 'lines' (they are not called 'ropes') holding the upper structure together. Is it nor a marvellous feat of human ingenuity that such a spider's web can be designed, let alone constructed and operated in poor weather?

And yet, neither of those vessels is as fully rigged as this poll.

Because all the others (besides the one on the b---) are lines, hawsers cables or chains.
