Yes I forgot I was talking to a feeble-minded simpleton who, rather like a child, cannot distinguish the short-term from the long-term.

Its a slow day. Although I agree that arguing with these morons is like shooting fish in a barrel.

I'll try to amuse myself in some other way now.

oh I didn't realise I was a simpleton, I do apologise for any convenience.

        Another simpleton

I suggest you check this out

sas, you seem to have a closed mind on this subject. I've learned three things I didn't know:
          1. Those subs were able to surface at the pole 50 years ago, which suggest the arctic was warmer then than it is now.
          2. The world mean temperature has been cooling since 1998.
          3. The greenhouse effect of carbon dioxide is very small compared to the clouds of water vapour, which are fairly consistent over the ages (or are they?)

All this despite the accelerated increase in carbon dioxide emissions, especially from 'third world' countries like India and China.

Is it not possible that many people are misinterpreting information - some by mistake, others doing it for their own ends? Only asking, like.

            Not a chance!

We definitely need more offshore wind, wave and tidal power generators
Confusion is a natural state of being

Actually these threads on global warming are interesting because I've learnt that Antarctica hasn't been warming (official from the IPCC). Though they say that when the Ozone hole has been plugged it will. The other I learnt is that there are villages in the alps that were covered by glaciers in the 16th century and they're stll under the glacier, which was also an interesting little fact.

I suppose you realize a large proportion of extra carbon dioxide emitted so far has been absorbed by the oceans.

But this is steadily increasing their acidity, which above a certain point will trigger mass marine extinctions. It also has a strict upper limit (which will reduce if average ocean temperature increases).

Anyone who knows anything about long range forecasting could tell you that we're in for 5 up to 20 years of colder weather. I don't think like some we're in for a Maunder Minimum, but it is a possibility.

That the Met Office comes out and says it's going to get warmer is a tribute to the amount of political face men put into positions of apparent authority and when some looney says the North Pole will be ice free by 2014 one should just laugh.

guru, keep up the troll though, it is really quite entertaining.
Insanity: repeating the same actions, but expecting different results.

My mind is closed to organisations with axes to grind like the Mail, Telegraph (Christoper Booker anyone?) et al.
I prefer to look at the data first hand, not the way some 3rd rate journalist describes it.
Your points 2 and 3 are plain wrong. For point 2 look at the NASA data (or any other data sets)
Point 3 is wrong on so many levels, I can't be bothered to explain. Google it, its complex and you most people have not the inclination, let alone ability, to make informed judgements.
If you have kids there are simple experiments to carry out if you can be bothered. These are fun and informative and teach kids how science works.
                    Again google is your friend.
