Special effects 10 - can't really fault the effects.
Story 5 at best - no better than the worst instalment, possibly the weakest story yet.
Acting 5 at best, I found it pretty wooden, twee and overly self acknowledging. Apart from the new spock who was OK. Simon Pegg what possessed you? The guy playing Kirk was an extremely annoying, unlikeable and bad actor, best suited to some T4 teen soap. The same applies to the moron playing uhura.

    Overall 6/10, must do better
I couldn't agree more. Very disappointing after all the hype. Mind you, I never pay to see films, so I can't complain.

And if you think ST was a load of over-hyped rubbish - which it was - wait until you see Avatar. It's a 2 hour yawn-fest. Even the graphics don't save it. Once again, don't believe the hype.

To counter that I thought Avatar was outstanding, all the way through I kept thinking how jealous George Lucas must be, 9.5/10 from me.

Even the harshest of critics gave it a thumbs up:

Science isn't about why, it's about why not. You ask: why is so much of our science dangerous? I say: why not marry safe science if you love it so much. In fact, why not invent a special safety door that won't hit you in the butt on the way out, because you are fired. - Cave Johnson
