To counter that I thought Avatar was outstanding, all the way through I kept thinking how jealous George Lucas must be, 9.5/10 from me.

Even the harshest of critics gave it a thumbs up:

Special effects 10 - can't really fault the effects.
Story 5 at best - no better than the worst instalment, possibly the weakest story yet.
Acting 5 at best, I found it pretty wooden, twee and overly self acknowledging. Apart from the new spock who was OK. Simon Pegg what possessed you? The guy playing Kirk was an extremely annoying, unlikeable and bad actor, best suited to some T4 teen soap. The same applies to the moron playing uhura.

    Overall 6/10, must do better
I couldn't agree more. Very disappointing after all the hype. Mind you, I never pay to see films, so I can't complain.

Indeed. Who want's one off epidsodes these days ?

I liked Bab 5 because there were very few happy endings and because it told a story (naff 'filler' episodes aside). There was some good acting in there too. Interestingly Star Trek introduced story arcs after Bab 5.

Babylon 5 has got a good story and episodes are linked to the main line - granted Season 4 and especially 5 ain't that good, still it is a top job.

Now I have not seen most of Star Trek, but I've seen enough to make a judgement on it.

Funnily enough I watched one of the "new" original Star Trek's tonight. It seems they've not only digitally remastered it all, but redone the effects, which is good, but unfortunately also cropped it to widescreen which means it cuts off the tops of everybody's heads and looks crap.

It was one of the ones where they find some primative race worshiping a "god" that turns out to be a computer. But I still think the original series was better than anything that came afterwards (although DS9 was pretty good too).

Sadly abrams or whatever he's called turned Star Trek into such an unrecognised steaming pile of tulipe that if that film had of been the first or a tv pilot, it would have gone no further.

Very very disappointing. I'd say up there with the previous all time turkey trek film ST: The Final Frontier.
