The piont about Agile is that the develoopment team can react to changes, and understand the requirements quickly. If the dev team do not have a client (i.e. customer) representative on site, then this is not possible - which is why they require copious amounts of documentation (which they won't understand, and will not question). If an off shoring shop tells you they use Agile and don't insist on a client being on site, they are bloody liars - it isn't possible.

You might as well call it the Waterfall methodology 'cos it looks the same to me. Do loads of analysis, write a shedload of docs, chuck it over the wall, get back a crock, write more docs, chuck over wall, get back a crock, ad nauseum ... It's not as fashionable (or as useful) as Agile but - when it comes to offshore cos (in my limited experience) - it works the same way.

While we all know that "Build one to throw away, you will anyway" is a sound approach, I've never yet come across a business that has approved such a thing - hence the fact that the world relies on IT systems that are prototypes at best, with a humungous amount of junk nailed on the side

The high paid IT contractor is going the way of the DoDo.

Sure there will always be an IT industry but wages will be fraction of what they once were in real terms.

Take the last 10 years, IT rates have been flat.

An IT contractor earning £120K a year back in 1999 had status, now all sorts of professions are paying that kind of money. And you could have bought a decent place with a £400K mortgage back then too (would be worth £1million+ today).

In fact some banks wont even give IT contractors mortgages these days.

                      FTFY.

IT is still easy money. Rates have been flat for 10 years but inflation has been low so £500 per day still buys more than a loaf of bread and a can of baked beans.

Now though, the smart kids should become doctors. Law is dead and finance is probably not a good idea either. Government / Senior Civil Service could be an option, especially if you can get on board the EU gravy train at some point.
