You think they'd qualify to own and bear legal firearms? I doubt it.

Even if they did they'd get shot soon - they'd probably shoot someone else, true however after that they'd be dead and no longer present constant danger to society.

Society (provided the state keeps its side of the unwritten contract and it is doubtful if it does) should expect reasonable restraint but it should not expect us to be saints. Taking violent action when the threat is over probable deserves a conviction technically but the sentence did not take reasonable account of the provocation.

Anyone ties my family up and threatens them I would do the same as should all of us. There is a time for being civilised and a time for knowing civilised behaviour is not an adequate response.
