It's your job, figure out it yourself.

We provide data to people who understand value of backlinks in SEO or want to understand it. You are clearly not our target market, which is fine, this helps your competitors rank better...

So your search engine is not really business driven, but is basically a platform for you to sneer at everyone who is not as clever as you?

For some reason I'm reminded of all those people who thought Wolfram Alpha was a search engine, and then couldn't understand why it wouldn't give them lists of local greengrocers

Didn't the BBC tell everyone it was a new fangled search engine?

Hmmm okay then AtW what you have done is great

But lets say i was a business with an interest in paying you good dollar for the use of your product.

What hard benefits could I expect to see from it?

How would it help my business grow?

Why is it better than saying paying an SEO company money to improve my PageRank?

              Cheers

Our search engines provides free and pay-for data to professionals who know how to use it in order to derive business benefits.

                It's not for everyone.

It's not our job to do what you want - we focus on what we have chosen to focus on, and there will be millions of people who don't need this data. You are one of them. If you have web site you should hire SEOs and they'll explain you value of backlinks, though no - they won't since they'd understand in 5 minutes that it is pointless waste of time, but they'd still take contract and get data from us - you would not need to know the details.

Yep, in their headline, although they then contradicted themselves in the second sentence of the story

We sell data just like HitWise sells traffic information or GfK sells data on sales. All of these are designed to be available to professionals who understand value of this data - we don't sell generic stuff like say a computer that can help any business grow in a generic way (say electronic accounting system).

Why is it better than saying paying an SEO company money to improve my PageRank?
Our clients are SEO companies and in-house SEO teams who understand value of data - here are some articles on value of backlinks:

                      http://ezinearticles.com/?id=618196

                      http://outspokenmedia.com/internet-m...ctors-in-2009/

"High level view of Google’s algorithm

                      * Trust authority of host domain – 25 percent
                      * Link population of specific page – 22 percent
                      * Anchor text of external links – 20 percent"

Our search provides data on these metrics (apart from trust authority - it is derived from backlinks however and we'll soon have it).
