We don't have grammar schools here, but if we did I'd like some of the kids from Sutton Grammar. They did some writing on their school roof: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&so...02064&t=h&z=20

Private (i.e. Public) School

My old school (and many other 'Public' Schools) now brands itself as an Independent School. Here's how the entry criteria went.
At 11, sat an entrance exam whilst parents chat to the senior teachers (in reality, a covert snoop into their likely wealth).
Poor or modest smart kids then get offered bursaries and scholarships.
Rich smart kids get offered token bursaries and scholarships.
Rich moderately smart kids get offered a place at full whack.
Poor and not really rich kids who are moderately smart or thick as a brick get told to 'do one'.
There are also a few places reserved each year for 'real money' and no consideration is taken of how smart or thick the kids are.
Oh, and finally, ex-pupils are marketed ferociously about sending their own kids and won't be doing so at £6k upwards per term.Guy Fawkes - "The last man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions."Comment

why send your kids to a public school - do you want them to be azz fu<ed?
as some of the other sensible people have said send them to the local comprehensive - you will find they get a better education due to the mix of people (from rich muppets to decent people to chav scum)
it will give your children a more rounded appreciation of life
obviously if you wish for them to think that they are more privilleged than others then go for it

School isn't about education surely? It's about getting a passport in life since most of us have forgotten close to 100% what was 'taught' by now anyway haven't we? The educational aspect is almost a total complete waste of time, especially rote learning in this day and age.Comment

Why send kids to Public schools? Hmm?
Of the people I went to Public school with we number IT Professionals, Doctors, Vets, a couple of Barristers, Accountants, Solicitors, Airline Pilots (ex-Fighter pilots), senior ranks in the military etc amongst our ranks.
When I go back to my parents' house I see a good number of the people I was at Primary School with, and who went to the local comp, working in Tesco. A couple of them drive lorries as well and one is a welder.Guy Fawkes - "The last man to enter Parliament with honourable intentions."Comment
