Judging by your performances on here you would struggle to convince anyone to follow you out of a blazing building!!

You know there are quiet a lot of peeps at Oxbridge and the Russell Group of Universities who are just bright. No intensive (Public) schooling required.

I went to Public school in Ireland, but you can just be bright with the right parenting.

It would appear SG that maybe you should opt for boarding school, but for most a good school is sufficient.

Maybe some private tutoring running up to exams or for problem areas.

If your kids are dumb, then still love them or they will end up as IT Contractors with 3 heads.....

Also remember that a good grammer schools is better than many of the average private schools but difficult to get into. Latymer school (voted best state school in 2009 by the Times Newspaper) usually has around 1800-2000 applicants for 170 places for each intake.

Having said that the private schol near me has a theatre, excellent swimming pool, exceptional sports facilities and good teachers but fees are around £14K per annum plus extras which total around £20K pa.

Sas, with your genetics involved, I wouldn't get my hopes up re the abilities of your offspring. Perhaps a school at the cutting edge of gurning and dribbling is best.

Pathetic. But marginally better than the "your mum" insults you were no doubt subjected to in your secondary modern.

You shouldn't force your expectations on your kids. you shouldn't push them too hard.

                    Both Gurning & Dribbling?

I was a "Private School" lad, as opposed to Public School, like Eton, etc.

It was a fee-paying school, with additional extras loaded on top, like uniform and approved equipment, etc.

                      We were a mixed school.

The only thing our school didn't have was anything educational in the sense of using physical labour. Eg, no woodworking, metalworking, cookery, etc. That was frowned upon.

Overall, it was a good, academic-focussed school, that still maintained standards and punishments (cane for example)

We even had out own Latin Motto :

Motto, Sapere Est Vincere (To Know Defeat)

The only drawback I could see was that the pupils generally felt second best to places like Eton, who were our competitive peers.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
