Favourite Horror Movies?

I quite like the gorefests, if not taken too seriously. What I hate is the "make you jump" style of horror. Partly because I don't like being made to jump, but also I think it's a really cheap trick. I don't like the teen slashers films much either.

The Guinea Pig Series fits that to a tee.

Thought Ring etc. were overrated, but liked Audition (same director as Ichi the Killer, Takashi Miike's other films are completely mental). Also rate Old Boy and Chan Wook Park's other films (Thai, not Japanese). Shutter is also Thai (someone said it was Japanese earlier in the thread) and The Eye was filmed in various Asian countries (not Japan).

Old Boy is Korean, not Thai. Another good Korean film, (and indeed, a good horror film), is The Host.

A group of people are trapped in a large West Berlin movie theater infected by ravenous demons whom proceed to kill and posses the humans one-by-one thereby multiplying their numbers.

explicit scenes of torture and mutilation that include a man being methodically impaled with giant needles and burnt with boiling frying oil, a tongue being cut out, an arm being wrenched from its socket and an entire body literally being cleaved in half. Most of the victims of this violence seem more puzzled at being skewered and torn apart then afraid. Indeed the lead character Kakihara, after effortlessly cutting off his own tongue, manages to have a polite yet muffled telephone conversation while blood spits out of his mouth.
