Had joint accounts for years since kids were born. If someone has to leave a job to look after kids they shouldn't have to keep having to ask the other for money.

The end of free banking is a bit of a nonsense.
The nearest that I've got so far is a letter from First Direct saying something about depositing a minimum every month into the bank account and then another letter saying that I was exempt of charges due to having a mortgage with them for £2.5k
Even if free banking does come in. If you want to keep your empty bank accounts open then just recycle the same 1K between the accounts using Standing Orders.

What do you think about prenups?

If you have to plan a prenup or keep your accounts separate then you really should not get married.

I never had a joint account with a girlfriend but I couldn't imagine not having one with my wife.
