Sounds like the reason that you're in debt is because you sent your daughter to private school because she lacked confidence.

I wish, by now I could own the chain.
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

we're in debt 'cos there is a huge mountain of 'unexpected events' which have had to be paid for, sending kids to private school is the straw breaking the camel's back.

If you're thick, and you do no work, you will fail no matter where you are.

If you're intelligent, and you do the work, you will succeed no matter where you are.

It's the kids in the middle that might be helped by the personalised teaching and rigid structures of a public school.

Me? Local comp and then Cambridge; I can't say there was any noticeable difference at my college between people from either background, although you can't deny there were an awful lot of the posh buggers about

I mainly agree, apart from thick people who go to public school will also do better.

I am sorry but you are guilty in your own way of being elitist. The point about schools is not about finding the brightest and most talented kids and developing them, it is about getting the best out of all of them. You are like the Tories of old who wanted to discard people who are of little use (why create top schools just for bright kids?)

The world is not just for people with brains. There is no such thing as a boring and talentless child. We have an education system that under the Tories and the socialists is fantastic only if you are bright and rich. The rest are discarded.

BTW what if you are intelligent and dont work?

Both my kids go to local comps and are doing OK. My brothers lads both went to the local comp- One has just finished his Phd from Bristol. The other is a brickie, but now runs his own building company that has an ~18 month backlog of work and is turning away more work than he can handle. So, they did OK really.

I did the bare minimum throughout my education. Seem to have done alright...
