I don't hate Hilda, I just would prefer it if you didn't make things up in your fanboy adoration of Saint Thatcher
The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

      .
I respect her, not for what she did - because for me, in my direct experience she was a negative. But because like it or not, she was a conviction politician - seems such a rare commodity these days.

      And btw I'm slightly pished.

Whether she was right or wrong for Britain long-term, she was doing things in the interest of the UK IMO, and was honest. A rare trait. I think Brown shares these characteristic and both like the power, and I don't think he is motivated by lining his own pockets like Blair, but Brown is a bit funny in the head of course, IMO. But he does try.

If you bother to read what I wrote then you will see that I am as critical of her as most. I may have been wrong statistically about grammar schools but my central point is not about grammar schools, nor is it about adoring the woman. My point is that contractors have done very well as a result of her policies and I am asking those of you who hate her so much to explain why. So far not one of the hysterical idiots has managed to step up and argue:

          1. That had Thatcher NOT come into power they would be as wealthy as they are now anyway.

          or

          2. What is it that she did that was so terrible to them that it made them hate her.

If snaw had said that Thatcher once got pished and stabbed his mum to death then THAT I could understand.

With regard to point 1, who knows?

I'm not a socialist but I will respond to Point 2

I dislike the way she had little regard for putting something in place (or helping to facilitate) for the industries she removed. I'm sure some of it was motivated by spite. But instead she was happy to create the welfare dependancy culture that Labour have taken to the next level, to my mind that was stupidity.
I believe there were areas of manufacturing that could now be thriving with the correct approach, we would not have as many areas with fractured communities with broken families who are disincentivised to work. It is clearly not enough for an economy to rely on the service industries alone, for balance of payments and national pride. Isambard Kingdom Brunel must have been spinning in his grave.

It is a strange perception that you have, there is no logic in what you write. She despised the culture of welfare dependency. It was indeed true that welfare dependents shot up as a result of her policies, but it was her predecessors who were responsible for the country going bust and having to bring in the IMF. So she may not have had the power to borrow money to support manufacturing or invest in infrastructure projects.

So much of what you say is completely without perspective. It may have been Thatcher who switched the lights off but it was her predecessors who were responsible for getting the UK into the mess in the first place.

WTF this has to do with Isambard Kingdom Brunel I dont know. Or do you think that introducing his "big" name into a debate somehow strengthens your non point?

She may have despised it, but it is a measure she presided over for political expediency. After all capitalism embraces the idea of not having full employment or rather a natural level of unemployment. Rather than have 5 million unemployed it was decided to redefine what unemployment was and park people on long term none unemployment statistic measured benefits.

Now to my mind those people could have been invested in other than spending taxpayer money to keep them quiet.

The industrial decline due to the present government has been greater than it was under Thatcher.
