Here is a relevant Russian joke:

"A boxing champion is giving post match interview, one journalist asks: why do you have such big arms - his coach intervenes and answers: 'That's to land powerful punches', then another reporter asks: why do you have such big legs - and the coach again answers - "that's to move cleverly in the ring", so finally yet another reporter asks - why do you have such big head: so coach yet again answers - "This is to think of smart moves during the fight"... suddenly the boxer himself interjects and says: "And also I am eating with it..."

I've heard some great Russian jokes, which have a funny ending and then carry on to have an even funnier ending. I've no examples that I recall though.

Not as bad as a previous opponent who jumping so hard off the canvas to get to Values's chin that he tore knee ligaments and had to quit.

They said the same thing to Hungary in 1956 and Czech in 1968.

'Size Matters' is a Soviet principle.

Indeed: this particularly applies to warfare - quantity rather than quality, there are many reason why this was and still is the case. This won't work well with China...

And well done to the BBC for allowing us to listen in on the action.

Afganistan and Finland spring to mind as well.

No no, the real example if WW2 - it was "won" using typical Russian/Soviet approach: quantity over quality. There are root reasons for that.

I've heard that, all other things being equal, the advantage is the square of the difference in numbers. So 2 people fighting 1 person don't have double the advantage, but 4 times.

That's very simplistic way of looking at it: one guy with an MG will take on 10 people attacking it up front.
