    RISC OS [reduced instruction set] on an ARM processor was nice [lean, mean & fast] for those of us who used to write in assembly.

    i recently put win7 64-bit onto an almost bare-bones box and it runs quite happily. i've still to put a dev environment on it mind you, but i can't foresee any problems...

      Every instruction could be conditional and you'd only lose 1 clock cycle if the instruction wasn't executed.

      I loved the bit-shift ability of most instructions too!

        Talking of assembly - I am planning to rewrite one tight loop in it from C on holidays this year, going to use Intel Compiler for it as crappy Visual Studio does not want inline assembly in 64 bit mode
