    Role negotiation

So, you havent done a particular specialist part of your role for 18months.

Working through recruitment consultant X for consultancy Y which in the end will be delivering for Client Z.

So if you havent done this type of work for 18months or so and feeling a bit rusty on that application. Naturally consultancy Y wants to deliver to the client but you feel you may not be upto scratch at the moment.

Do you not go for the role? Or can you negotiate with consultancy Y. I'll make you deal, let see how the first month goes, and if I cant deliver in that first month(perhaps even at a reduced rate) what is required then we can cancel the contract. (I know I have the skills as they taught me what to do but simply it;'s been a while since I have done this type of work). but if can deliver then business as usual. i feel it's a fair compromise given the time gap.

What are CUK thoughts on this

Yes, go for the role. The skill will come back as soon as you start using it.

I would steer clear of any crap like that, it sounds weak and I would be looking for other options if I was offererd that.

You can either do it or you can't.
You think you can (albiet a bit rusty) so go for it guns blazing. After two weeks doing the actual task you'll look back and wonder why in gods name you even thought of giving them a get out.

You can do that if you want but you would be certain not to get the gig.

Put yourself in the consultancy's shoes. They have to deliver - why take the chance with someone who thinks that they might not be able to do the work?

thanks. I'm just trying to secure a contract on something that I havent worked on for a while and be fair all round. And if it does work out then everyones a winner anyway.

Going in saying "I'm a bit rusty, I'm not sure if I'll remember everything" is a great way of not getting the gig.

If you're tulip they'll bin you anyway.

You are in Business man! Jump in with both feet. In this situation remind yourself what Sir Alan Sugar or Sir Richard Branson would do.
