And to be honest, the planet couldn't give a rat's nostril either, since the earth is not sentient.

However, the effect of the vehicle upon the planet is negative, and causes things to happen, not nice things, that affect you and others.

Therein lies the problem.

If the planet was all yours, you could drive about all day and it wouldn't really matter.
