I'd probably aim for a Focus or Civic or even an Astra, should be able to get one in that budget which will do the job.

Trawl through Autotrader and you will find loads of candidates.

I think every thread we have had like this has boiled down to a civic or a focus or both

                    Brief:

                    Cost £1K-£2K
                    Economical
                    Petrol (NOT DIESEL)

                    Any ideas
Citroen C5, cheap as chips, cushioning hyrogas suspension...forget buying an older 'more reliable car' it won't be due to the age differencial and small cars are bad VFM

The court heard Darren Upton had written a letter to Judge Sally Cahill QC saying he wasn’t “a typical inmate of prison”.

But the judge said: “That simply demonstrates your arrogance continues. You are typical. Inmates of prison are people who are dishonest. You are a thoroughly dishonestly man motivated by your own selfish greed.”

Go for cheap and Japanese, our Almera has done over 100K now and in those 100,000 miles not a single thing has ever gone wrong with it, never missed a beat.

My newer Peugeot on the other hand suffers some form of new catastrophic failure every other day and has probably cost me 10x what the Almera is worth in repairs alone.
