Xmas Do - where, when, who

How do I do that then?

Thread Tools menu near the middle of the blue menu bar at the top of each page of the thread - as you started the thread, there should be an "Add a poll" option. When you create the questions for the poll, there will be a checkbox underneath allowing you to specify that it's a public poll, so others can see who voted for what - this is unchecked by default, so check it before submitting the poll.

Rather than just having yes/no options you could set up enough options for people to give their ETA - I think you're allowed 12 options, so allowing for Not coming and the obligatory Andw option, you could go from 1630 to 2100 in 30 minute increments.

Is there any chance of you remedying Churchill's wretched incompetence in the matter of poll creation? The poll he's attached to the Xmas Do sticky is supposed to be public, so we know who's coming; but despite my best efforts at explaining it to him, he failed miserably

If you could flip the magic switch to make it public it would be most helpful.

Not really - only the thread starter can add a poll, and if I set up a separate one it would just drop off the front page under the weight of DP's Daily Mail linkblog
