You'll get used to it, just don't expect anyone to be particularly friendly and of course once you have a taste for the money, you can never leave. A bit like those rabbits in Watership Down. fill yer boots!

I know - but that was the contractor in me. You pray and pray for a gig, and when you get it you're elated! (That was a few weeks back).

Now I just dont want to move away, I dont want to do the work, I'm already sick as f1kc of the client AND the agent , and I'm dreading the travel!

          That's contracting for ya!

No - and I have loads of mates down there too, I'm sure it'll be fine...but it's not home

I've been spoilt lately - I have't had to work away from home in about 3 years!

            Exactly.

I must (somewhat against my natural instincts) defend London on the 'friendliness' issue.

I have found London people to be quite helpful and friendly when you need them to be.

Same in New York. Visitors think they have a reputation for being rude, surly and unhelpful, but most of the time, they are great.

            Now, Parisians - feck them!

Also, the rudest, most obnoxious people I have found in England were in Leeds. So much for Northern Hospitality.

You've come right out the other side of the forest of irony and ended up in the desert of wrong.

I am resident in London and don't live in a gated community.
Mayfair was never ever great IMO, being a playground for rich and nasty Middle Eastern types since the 70s.
In any case generalising about London is as senseless as generalising about any diverse group or system.
London had both the worst and best places in the world.
              Hard Brexit now!

Even seemingly unfriendly Londoners will take pleasure in helping you with directions and suggestions for places to visit.

Hated my first 3 months in Paris, then the sun came out and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I made some decent French friends as well.

Leeds is weird, perhaps because it's the biggest city in Yorkshire. Even as a native of the county I found it the hardest place in Yorkshire to settle, and was glad to get away from it when I could.

On reflection, the mates I did make all came from the provinces. Most of my French colleagues were also from outside Paris and had the firm intention of leaving it once they had the relevant experience.
