And OwlHoot shows why a literal reading of the bible is so dangerous. The passage is not about cursing fig trees, but is rather a lesson using symbolism common to both the Jews and the Romans. Essentially it is a prophecy that Jerusalem will be destroyed by the Romans, and further that any one who fails to accept Jesus will face complete destruction.

My personal interpretation was that Jesus had one two many of the old vinos and with a rotten hangover decdied to curse what, he thought was a vine, but the poor old fig tree got it instead.

Just shows how we all interpret the Bible in differnt ways.
