So if something starts at 9am GMT, then in BST (which is GMT + 1) it starts at 10am?

And in ten years time it'll be 1999?

Most people find BST/GMT confusing, and don't even know which is which. Most people find Channel4+1 intuitive on the other hand. Therefore it's better.

UKTV History is now called Yesterday. Which is fine. Except that the "test card" thing they have on the screen when it's off the air says:

        Yesterday will return at 6am

Presumably an alarm clock radio switches on and starts playing I Got You Babe.

Subtraction is actually a quite difficult concept to learn and teach and many people never quite grasp it, often using some concept of 'difference'. So it is much easier on the viewers mind to say +1.

But obviously in some peoples' eyes the important thing is to be 'correct' regardless of the practicality of the solution. I suspect such people probably work in the public sector.
