But obviously in some peoples' eyes the important thing is to be 'correct' regardless of the practicality of the solution. I suspect such people probably work in the public sector.

So if something starts at 9am GMT, then in BST (which is GMT + 1) it starts at 10am?
And in ten years time it'll be 1999?
Most people find BST/GMT confusing, and don't even know which is which. Most people find Channel4+1 intuitive on the other hand. Therefore it's better.
