I stopped applying for stuff after landing a perm job 3 weeks ago, and since then my phone has not rang once despite my CV being with quite a few places.. (you know, the random 'Hi, hows it going, what's your current situation).

I love the fact that when someone does ring up now to just fish off me, I can tell them whatever BS I feel like on the day.

This has been the quietest month yet.

Yeah, tell me about it. I started looking at the beginning of August & had quite a few calls in the first few weeks. Now it's dead again. I'm in .Net / C++ and while there are things advertised on jobserve a lot are in IB and I just don't have any experience in that field at all.

I've been on a bad rate for the last year & have had more going out than I've got coming in, mainly from maintaining 2 lives, 1 in spain & 1 in the UK. I'm really banking on getting something in the next couple of months otherwise we're into the christmas dead period & after that nothing will be happening until late Feb at the earliest. Unfortunately, my funds won't stretch that far!

I use the count of jobs on jobserve.com as a guide during the month, and old.jobstats.co.uk at the end of the month to check monthly activity. Both bear out the feeling that things are worse this month than July or the early part of August.

I've seen the daily count on Jobserve float between 12000 and 45000 for European jobs. It's currently on 15000. We're scraping along the bottom at the moment but the stock market and general news all indicates that things should be positive soon.

Had a few phone calls this month...

              Applied for a few roles....

I've now purchased a marketing list...

I'm sending out my CV directly to 250 IT decision makers by 18th Sept and then another 250 the week after.

I feel I need to be proactive.

Why not just use the advanced search option on linkedin?

I think sending a CV in the post is more professional than spamming people on Linkedin.

What a quaint olde phrase. It might just work too.
