Agents are Lizards with long forked tongues!

Contractors are bait for these people (e.g. treat Contractors like maggots).

Clients are (big) fish.

I agree with most of the points made on this thread, particularly with regards to job titles. I have only ever sat in on one interview. I did not understand a thing that was being discussed and I was embarassed because I thought that the contractor was a disaster. At the end of the interview I was very pleasantly surprised when the client took me to one side, thanked me for finding the right person and offered him a contract there and then

Of course being an agent I couldnt resist saying to the client "yeah I knew he was fine after I gave him a thorough technical grilling earlier"

There is only one thing that is worse than agents dealing with HR, and that I am afraid would be the prospect of all you propellerheads cold calling hiring managers direct. A few months of that and the hiring managers (and contractors for that matter) would be begging HR and us to come back

Agents going with you to interviews/meetings? Christ, never heard that one before. I would just tell him to sod off, in front of the client

I've never had it before until recently - now it seems to be quite a fad Normally the agent has arranged with the client to be present. Not quite sure why - worried about being cut out, secret being rumbled, or a genuine belief that they are part of the 'solution team'.

Last one I had the agent kept jumping in with completely daft suggestions (obviously thought he was a Big 4 consultant). Actually the client wasn't much better - dumped them later on

remember were it not for lazy HR people there would be no need for the recruitment agent. I've worked in enormous companies with millons of pounds wasted on HR departments who seem to do ... well nothing ..... they just run checks on people and tell them when they are going to be fired or what they do when they are hired .. then you never hear from them again.

Well you have made the classic mistake of thinking HR is there for you. They arent...all they are there to do is ensure when you get fired that the business goes through the proper process of doing that so they dont get sued because they didnt follow the rules!
