I'm afraid that I fall into the tattoo = chav/common camp too sorry.
They're a fashion statement that's become popular over the last decade or so, I fully expect them to go out of fashion, but they're far from simple to erase.
I don't understand why people voluntarily multilate themselves in such a permanent way.Comment
