Maybe he found what he was looking for and they want him to keep schtum, also the fact that his aspergers syndrome is mentioned all the time is to reduce his credibility if he ever did say anything
Politicians are wonderfull people, as long as they stay away from things they don't understand, like working for a living!

You mean "engage in covert character assassination in order to discredit him, so that anything he says is taken with a pinch of salt" ?

Surely we wouldn't stoop that low ?

You know, if and when he does go to live with our ex-colonials, it wouldn't suprise me if he is found dead in his cell, after a few weeks.

There's been enough fore-shadowing of the event in the public media, in order to make them think "Yeah was going to happen anyway, the experts said. Still, what a way to go, slipping on a wet floor and banging your head on a sink. 18 times. tut....tut....."

Uncle Sam may be the Land of the Free, but when you make a mockery of Him, their wrath is limitless. Especially if something was discovered.

"So why then BGG, doesn't Gary say anything ?"

Because a) of character assassination and being discredited, and b) I'm sure he loves him Mum and his GF, and well, accidents can happen, can't they ? or c) there was nothing to find.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

If I was him I would be looking to 'leave town' until the conservatives get in.

I'd like to know who is picking the cost of his legal defence in the UK, is it tax payers funded? If so, he should go to jail here as well once he returns back from USA.

As a subject of the Crown he is entitled to legal representation. It is just part of the tax burden.

Marillion (and others) made noises about doing a gig for his benefit but I don't think it has happened.

I think the Daily Mail may have bunged a few £ his way to keep the story going.

I suspect his mum's savings have gone into supporting him. That page has a contributions button.

This site which supports him raises money for Extradition Watch.

Fairness is about rules applied without bias. What you describe would be a wholly disproportionate punishment to a crime, which is a different argument.

We're straying too fair from the point. I am arguing that he will get a "fair" trial in a US court. While standards might have slipped a bit in recent years, the US still operates a fair legal system. The fact that the US punishes this crime more severely than we do doesn't make it unfair.

I find for a self confessed criminal he is getting way too much resources where as others get denied legal aid.

My guess is that he will probably cause as much damage to UK taxpayer as he allegedly did in the USA.

Granted, extradition treaty should never be one sided like it is now, but nevertheless he should have been on the first plane to the USA as soon as he admitted the offense.

And if he had, in all likelihood he would have been sent down for 1-2 years, been back since circa 2003, done the book deal, and now would be a highly paid security consultant.

The main problem with this whole situation is that both sides have been constantly upping the ante, so we now have a flush or bust situation.

He has already cost the UK taxpayer far, far more than the US taxpayer. All the yanks had to do was put some passwords on their internet-connected secret defence admin accounts.

Personally, I am happy for some of my UK tax money to be used to check the correctness in deporting a UK citizen to a country that holds prisoners for years without trial, uses the death penalty on innocent people and which uses torture to gain any evidence it might want.

Indeed - the USA are forced to make an example of him, and the person who forced this situation is the guy himself: he made 2 mistakes, one was to do what he did, and much bigger one was trying to use publicity of the case to get away with it.

I also don't buy his "autism" thing - it's a total lie IMO.

He is a very bad cause to support fighting extraditions.
