But because of the hundreds (thousands?) of other laws passed in that time, you are going to have a hard time tracking those two down.

The only thing I would say was that McKinnon did apparently change password files. So it was more than just trespass.

Realistically all he did was wander into a garden through the open gate which had a huge sign saying 'please come in' and knock a garden gnome over.

Having followed the progress of this case over the years , my opinion is that a long custodial sentence is inappropriate - if Gary could access NASA data effortlessly - that is very disturbing in the sense of what information the Chinese may have already hacked - and they would not leave their email account details as Gary thoughtfully did.

If anything Garys eccentricity gave the NASA sec staff a well needed shock - Im sure their security is now much tighter.

To be fair on NASA years of diwndling budgets and cutbacks probably meant that systsm security took a back seat to funds which were spent on the core Space Program - it takes a high profile hack in these circumstances for Management to take security and the funding of security - seriously .

How to help Gary ?


It happens that Edgar Mitchell - one of NASAs most experienced astronauts - recently in a radio intrewiew accused the US Goevernment and NASA of a 'systematic cover up concening UFO's and the existence of Aliens ... ' you may recall I posted this info on this site not so long ago.

Mitchell is very convinced on this topic - and remember Gary was motivated by finding proof of a NASA cover-up of UFOs and Aliens - so if Mitchell could be persuaded to lobby on behalf of Gary - think about it ...

This could be a very interesing development - it just might apply pressure on NASA and the US government that they would rather avoid - especialiy given the media coverage such a case would entail.

As it happens I recently met the chap who trained Edgar Mitchell in EVA during the Apollo mission - my hope is that I can persaude him to contact Edgar regarding Garys plight.
