For this cynical usage he deserves to go down in jail for life as his CURRENT actions WOULD destroy some one else's life.
Your jumped up web spider goes around the web, have you ever asked these people if you can take their data?

I'd agree with that - which brings up my original view that his doctor may have made a mistake. Or he had it back then but not now. He was or still is a geek, most likely intravert, seems perfect to pass as autistic person.

In any case, that's matter for legal experts to decide - I would not rely on a doctor quoted by the accused, if he is so sure he should go to court then, something he tries to avoid - that sends pretty clear message to me.

We operate in the same way as other search engines like Google. The only data we crawl is that placed on the web and not disallowed by robots.txt which is the de facto industry standard for crawlers.

Unlike Google we do not hold content of the pages either at the moment, only factual data about URLs linking to each other, if you feel that we are violating any laws in the UK then please point me out to them. I am certainly prepared to fight legal battle if necessary - so choose your words wisely.

Hasn't stopped you before, so why hold back now. Let's just have a refresh of what you have said about me in this thread.

No wonder we have idiots running this country if we have idiots voting.
I didn't respond at the time, but you hardly have the moral high ground when it comes to dishing out personal insults

He doesn't. He also ignored clear intent of that word "retard" - (in a medical sense), therefore it was not an insult - it was a question whether he is actually a retard in a medical sense.

I guess we've got the answer

Oh, is that a threat? Do you want me to send on what you have about McKinnon's doctor to the GMC? I am sure that doctor would be quite interested to hear your view on his accreditation and you previous rebuttal of his/her diagnosis.

Back to the point, did you ever ask the permission of anyone to place their details on your database?

I don't know who his doctor is. I've raised doubts about diagnosis as it seems inconsistent with McKinnon's behavior right now.

My view is that this matter should be heard in court where his doctor will be able to be validated by medical experts (should prosecution require it).

In terms of threats you should learn one thing - libel in the UK comes into play when someone comments on a forum when the allegedly libelled party can be identified in real life, me for example - not you since we don't know your real name, where you work etc - maybe you should post it so that we will be on even ground.

Back to the point, did you ever ask the permission of anyone to place their details on your database?
We don't hold personal details in our database, only factual statistical data about web graph. Any large scale web search engine does the same - Google, Yahoo, Microsoft etc. If you want to challenge legality of their operations then be my guest. If you have legal concerns about our operations then I'd like you to post them to me in writing to our company registered address - if necessary I'll consult our company solicitors, this will cost money so be sure your curiosity is well justified because I might have to pass the cost onto you.

That's silly. He doesn't have people's details; merely a record of links they make available publicly on the 'net.

Aye, very good. I'm simply asking if you consulted each and every web site you have scraped and asked "can you give me permission to do this"
