To put the numbers in perspective, in the last 3 months an estimated:

* 2,100,000 children died due to poverty (UNICEF Estimates 25,000 per day)

* 69,041 people died in the US due to Obesity (annual estimate is 300k per year)

* 35,782 deaths due to cancer in the UK (155,484 was 2007 total)

* 690 People died on UK roads (3000 was last years total)

Oh yeah and lets not forget the studies looking at UK mortality rates due to in(flu)enza

Not arguing we are barely into this, but this is important bit, we have been here at least a dozen of times before in our life times (if over 30). Been a flu epidemics every 2 to 4 years since records began

The only reason anyone has paid any attention to swine flu is due to the massive over reporting of fatalities initially in Mexico, which made it sound like the black death was coming. Yet we now know those reports were wrong/false

Yes swine flu will be wide spread and yes a lot of people will die but guess what, that happens pretty much every 2 to 4 years and we barely notice or remember it unless directly affected by one of the deaths

If media and politicians don't stop panicking people each time a new version of influenza comes out then when something really serious, really deadly starts spreading no one will listen until it is to late
