All I wanna do is do it, big girl

Possible plan B / Beer money

I want to get some lower end mixing equipment to play with and do some parties with. Nothing heavy, possibly chuck a couple of thousand at it. I used to mix a bit at uni, and could prolly make it to the lofty heights of dj-ing weddings and cheesey 60th birthday parties etc. In my mind it's a bit of fun that could bring in some pennies. I have loads of contacts so could get gigs no problem, and they would laugh at the old man on the decks (32 years)

The problem is, while I have a good grounding in electronics, I have no clue about what is good kit.

    Anyone give me a steer?

I want a to use primarily CDs and mp3s but would like to leave space for record players just in case.

    I'm thinking I need

    Pre amp
    Mixer (2 - n channel ?)
    Amp
    Speakers

    rope lights of course

    Anyone got any tips?

Looking forward to the sarcy comments

isn't this what 16 year olds aspire to do for extra cash, not 32 year old IT contractors?

      Spot on.

Mind you, I don't remember having a couple of grand spare at that age.

If it helps, I'm a sad ole twat not accepting I am past my best and want to just get on with having some fun and earning some pennies.

Overweight, still play football with much younger lads, and still shock them with agility and skill. Not done having fun yet, just want to keep on going.

As my ole mate Ted (75) who was building my neighbours (Gary - 50) excellent driveway and rockery just stated - while I can I will.

      Moyles is nearly 40 FFS

      Bring it on.

(Couple of glasses of white wine in case you were wondering)

Just do it. My mates a 34yr old lawyer playing in some indie band for exactly the same reasons you mentioned. He gets to live out his fantasies of playing in a band and have a laugh at the same time. Unfortunately the band are terrible and he makes no money but that aint the point - Its rock and/or roll man...

Mixing - erm that's playing other people's recordings and claiming the credit for it?

Or are you 'adding value' somewhere along the line?

Why does this video come into my mind?
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

Mate, you're 32 - that's almost your prime footballing years (Well should have been 2-3 years ago). Give it another 5 years then you'll really start to notice it ... (Days later I mean).

I just sold the last of my dj kit - at 47 to a bloke in his 50s I've been doing it off and on since I was 13. Most gear these days is streets ahead of the crap I started off with. Mixers are inexpensive and decent - even the cheap ones, I would concentrate my cash on speakers and cd players - or you can use a fast pc/laptop as your music source of course - you'll normally need an extra soundcard.
