        It's only fair.
How did this happen? Who's to blame? Well certainly there are those more responsible than others, and they will be held accountable, but again truth be told, if you're looking for the guilty, you need only look into a mirror.

I don't think that's how it's supposed to work. Although I'm not sure where the line is between punishment and rehabilitation in the foundations of the English legal system. Does anyone know the ideal behind the reality?

            What did he do?

            - Deserted from the army (not relevant to his later sentence)
            - Played a minor (according to Wiki) role in the great train robbery, in which someone was hit violently on the head and later died of something unrelated (Wiki).
            - Escaped from jail
            - ... a lot of loot was involved

            Is that it?

He only came back for free NHS treatment. I felt he should have been refused entry and left to die on the streets of South America.

He's not a cheeky chappy. He's a nasty, violent piece of shit.
WHS +1 and I find all the pathetic celebs who crawl out of the woodwork to say what a stand-up geezer he is sickenening - who is taking care of the victim here - the driver they coshed who never recovered - he's the real hero.

Deserves everything he gets as far as I am concerned.

Just because he has become an infirm old man does not mean he should be released.

He was sentenced to 30 years for a reason (Edwards only got 15). He only served one before he did one. He spent 35 years living it up and taking the piss.
He has to do the rest of his sentence, absconding removes his eligability for early release.
I am not qualified to give the above advice!

Let him rot. He's just a piss poor pikey in need of constant health care - the reason he came back in the first place. Not long before it's Bye bye Piggsy

So why does he have to rot in gaol while others are let out early to kill again ? It seems mighty unfair to me as he never murdered anyone and is a very old man, and murderers serve about 8 years on average, and quite often murder again.

I agree completely: similar life-long violent career criminals that escape and then live up the high life cocking a snook at society shouldn't be let out early either.
