But you do admit that paying them less would result in a worse service?, I am not advocating paying them more, we are discussing you wanting to pay them less so let's not bring that in so you can avoid an important question which you are obviously unwilling to answer. -
No, I don't think paying them less would result in a worse service. Where's the evidence paying doctors less results in worse patient care? It would free up funds that could be spent elsewhere.Originally posted by minestrone View PostBut you do admit that paying them less would result in a worse service?, I am not advocating paying them more, we are discussing you wanting to pay them less so let's not bring that in so you can avoid an important question which you are obviously unwilling to answer.Comment

So you seriously think that if you cut a GPs wage from 125k to 20 ( i think that is what a bus driver gets ) a whole load of them will not just leave the NHS? In future the only people wanting to do medicine will the mental equal of the bus driver as they are paid the same?Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostNo, I don't think paying them less would result in a worse service. Love to be a fly on the wall when this hypocritical doughnut has to see someone in the profession he so despises because he has a serious illness that he wants putting right.Originally posted by minestrone View PostSo you seriously think that if you cut a GPs wage from 125k to 20 ( i think that is what a bus driver gets ) a whole load of them will not just leave the NHS? I wonder if he'll be all "you just profit from the sick and the vulnerable" then?
I can't work out if he hates doctors because he's a communist and they earn too much money, or if one slept with his wife/gf, or if it is a simple jealousy thing. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - EpicurusComment

No I said that wouldn't work in isolation. Bringing their pay down to around 40K / year would be fair for a job that's safe for life IMO. Currently their pay is verging on the obscene when patients are increasingly struggling to find work, or work that is minimum wage. Their pay has got out of wack with the rest of society and needs adjusting downwards. Either that or the UK introduces inflation to bring silly public wage down to more realistic levels, and that's what I suspect will happen.Originally posted by minestrone View PostSo you seriously think that if you cut a GPs wage from 125k to 20 ( i think that is what a bus driver gets ) a whole load of them will not just leave the NHS? I'm not convinced.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostNo I said that wouldn't work in isolation. Bringing their pay down to around 40K / year would be fair for a job that's safe for life IMO. Recent accident aside.
Doctors take a far from simple or short university education followed by a quite exacting set of professional training and experience at least equivalent to any Chartered Accountant, Barrister or Chartered Engineer. Why should a Barrister, Plant designer or Tax expert be able to earn well over £100k when a Medic can't?
Arguably the medics have more actual responsibilities and accountability (at least theoretically) than any other true profession. If a Barrister cocks up then no real harm done, but a Medic will end up burying his or being faced with a badly damaged as well as deeply irritated customer.
If you're drawing a parallel in terms of pay equality then you should compare with those positions requiring a similar education and experience standard to practice.Comment

Surely 40K / year would put their pay in the same ball park as those high earners?Originally posted by TykeMerc View PostI'm not convinced.

Actually no I won't, because unlike a twisted nutter like you I don't wander around thinking that doctors have a "cushy number" and are "in it to profit off the sick and vulnerable". Frankly having seen what they have to go through and the people they have to put up with, they are worth every penny they get.Originally posted by TimberWolf View PostYou'll be moaning about how much tax you pay next.
I wonder why you think doctors have such a high suicide rate? In your strange little world it must be the stress of having to spend all that easy money, right?
I find you offensive in the extreme, and the phrase "what goes around comes around" kinda pops in there. At some point in your life I suspect your attitude will change. Suddenly and dramatically. Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God? - EpicurusComment
