The Beeb's rules preclude them from confirming a death until they have verified it through two independent sources. Sky is not bound by such tight controls on journalistic integrity and veracity - hardly surprising, given its owner.

To be fair, all the news networks I was watching prior to the death being confirmed, did not report him as being dead.

They consistently reported that TMZ were reporting he had died and that the LA Times were reporting he was in a coma.

It wasn't until the PA reported he was dead that they started to do likewise.

Believe you are right re: the Beeb and independent verification but wasn't aware it had to be from 2 sources.

I was actually quite impressed with the 'restraint' being shown all around - suspect this was more to do with the fact that the initial source was a 'celeb' website, TMZ.
